26th April 2006 Lake District Green Road changes

Popular "dual status" routes in the Lake District - where walkers, cyclists and horse-riders find themselves alongside 4x4s and motorcycles - are to be dramatically changed as a result of new national Government legislation under the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006.

The Defra regulations effectively remove the rights of 4x4 vehicles and trails motorcycles from popular Lake District routes such as Garburn Pass and Walna Scar. However nearly 80 other routes will still be available for recreational motor vehicle use.

Specific information about which routes are affected have been posted on the LDNPA's website at www.lake-district.gov.uk.
