469 Beeley

Beside the River Derwent, barely a stone's throw from Chatsworth, one of England's finest stately houses, families were picnicking and relaxing in the hot sun. Had they paid to come in? No. Freedom to roam was granted by the late Duke of Devonshire when most other landowners were putting up "Keep Out!" notices. So as you stroll across Beeley Moor, give thanks for a man who will long be remembered with affection.
