472 Lion Salt Works

Restoration is the name of the game, but Northwich's Lion Salt Works was the only North West entry for one of the BBC2 programmes. This unique example of the traditional "open pan" method of processing salt needed funds to restore the buildings and now is transformed into a working museum. On a stiflingly hot July day we sympathised with the workers who slaved over pans of boiling brine, but with a choice of three pubs there's no excuse for getting overheated on this walk.
