531 River Weaver

Though its name comes from the Old English "wefer", meaning winding stream, the River Weaver no longer winds over the Cheshire plain for, in the 1720s, the waterway was widened and deepened to carry sea-going ships. But now Cheshire's salt industry has moved on and swans patrol the quiet waters.
