637 Hornby

With its riverside setting, quaint cottages, two churches and busy shops, the Domesday village of Hornby is a most attractive place. The castle dates back to the 13th century while, beside the Lune, stands an even earlier motte and bailey fortification supplemented by an incongruous concrete pillbox. Hornby is obviously well worth defending.
