711 Winterley and Haslington Hall

Admiral Sir Francis Vernon, who built Haslington Hall, was in charge of demolishing the Spanish Armada ships, and is said to have used the boats' timber to build his hall. It's a good story, but he built the house in 1545, forty three years before the Armada was defeated! The walk follows little trodden field paths and quiet country lanes exploring a bit of rural Cheshire where you won't find many other walkers.
