848 Goostrey and the River Dane

Goostrey, best known for its gooseberry growing prowess, is one of Cheshire delightful villages, while here the River Dane winds its way through countryside that is noted for being quiet and off the usual beaten track. Crossing fields still gleaming gold after the harvest and striding a trodden path through head high maize we saw only a very few people on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. With country pubs struggling it's great to find Goostrey's Red Lion thriving. And the landlord welcomes walkers, so after exploring the secluded Dane Valley do pop in for a glass.
